‘Rudra’ means Shiva and ‘Aksha’ means tears. It means Shiva’s Tears. When Lord Shiva opened his eyes after a long time, his tears fells upon the earth, and wherever those tears fell, a rudraksha tree was formed. The rudraksha beads are the seeds within the rudraksha fruits which open up by themselves, when placed in water. Rudraksha trees are mostly found in Nepal, India, Burma, and Indonesia.
According to the Hindu mythology (Shiv Purana), just chanting the name of Rudraksha, gives the benefit of donating 11 cows (Gau Daan). Cows being holy creatures as per Hinduism, donating a cow is considered an act of higher ascension and cleansing of karmas- a charity of the highest accord in Hinduism.
